Football (American Style) is Saved

March 9th, 2006

All American Sports Correspondant “The Murf” first told us about this in Episode #3. It seems that after some last minute closed door beatings the NFL owners got their act together and decided that they cared about Football enough to actually play nice and share their millions so that the sport as we know it could live on. Wasn’t that nice of them? Of course I’m still not sure that it is going to fix “Murf’s” current disgruntled opinion of the American Sports scene but at least I know the game will go on.

Port Deal goes on hold

February 25th, 2006

Late last night the sale of US East Coast Port Operations was put on hold…By the UAE.  While on the surface this seems like a positive thing (listen to this week’s Rational Thought segment) it only serves to let more people come to the same conclusion by allowing “experts” to cloud the issue.  In my segment I never held that US ports would be less secure (which is what all the “experts” are touting).  I argued that our true allies and our own troops overseas would be in more danger.  While the UAE is willing to make all sorts of concessions to get the port deal done none of them include cutting off funding to a Hamas run Palestine, continued cooperation with Syria and Iran, or even recognition of Israel.  Meaning that, at least in part, the $7 Billion payout would wind up in the hands of the people that the US classifies as, at a minimum, “not very nice”.  Whatever, we Americans are pretty short sighted and only look at things in the near term.  Which is why as much as I’d like to go on about this forever I’ve got beer to drink.  So, Cheers…
